Asian market came under heavy selling pressure on Friday, 06 November 2026, as a sharp sell-off in US technology and semiconductor stocks spread across the region. Concerns over tighter regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and a potential slowdown in data-centre investments weighed on investor sentiment. South Korea's Kospi plunged more than 4%, while Japan's Nikkei 225 dropped over 5%.

US market suffered their steepest sell-off in more than a year on Thursday, with technology and AI-linked stocks leading the decline. The S&P 500 tumbled 4.36% to 7,353.73, its biggest one-day fall since April 2025. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1,833 points, or 3.44%, to 51,523.06, while the Nasdaq Composite plunged 5.52% to 24,315.

The Nasdaq's decline pushed the index more than 10% below its October record, placing it in correction territory. The sell-off followed concerns that Democratic victories in the US midterm elections could lead to tighter scrutiny of data-centre construction and AI infrastructure spending. Investors also reassessed valuations of companies that had benefited from the AI investment boom.

Semiconductor stocks led the losses. Nvidia fell more than 9%, while Qualcomm dropped 9% after its fourth-quarter smartphone chip sales outlook missed estimates. Sandisk declined 22.3%, Lumentum lost 18.7% and Micron Technology fell 17.5%. AppLovin bucked the trend, rising around 31% after reporting stronger-than-expected quarterly profit.

Crude oil prices recovered on Thursday after the previous session's steep decline. Brent crude futures settled at $98.29 a barrel, up 3.88%.

Investors will focus on the US October employment report, scheduled for release on Friday. The data could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve's interest-rate trajectory.

Comments from Federal Reserve officials on inflation and interest rates will also remain in focus. Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack said interest rates need to remain restrictive to bring inflation back to the central bank's target.
