Nifty above 24,650; IT shares advance

The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in morning trade. The Nifty traded tad above 24,650 mark. IT shares extended gains for the second consecutive trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 583.26 points or 0.74% to 79,893.27. The Nifty 50 index rose 117.40 points or 0.48% to 24,654.00.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 1.01% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index fell 1.41%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1,369 shares rose and 2,399 shares fell. A total of 229 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty IT index rose 1.30% to 33,264.45. The index jumped 3.72% in the two consecutive trading sessions.

Mphasis (up 3.63%), Tata Consultancy Services (up 1.67%), Persistent Systems (up 1.51%), HCL Technologies (up 1.38%), Infosys (up 1.37%), Wipro (up 0.84%), Tech Mahindra (up 0.7%), Coforge (up 0.6%), and LTM (up 0.14%) rose.
