Dow gains while tech stocks stay under pressure

US stocks ended on a mixed note on Monday as a sell-off in technology shares erased early gains on the first trading day of November, while industrial and home improvement stocks rose. Markets had turned lower last week with tech stocks witnessing heavy selling. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1.07% to 25,164.36 after rising as much as 1.4% earlier in the session, while the S&P 500 gave up a gain of as much as 1.1% to close down 0.51% at 7,541.40. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 213.67 points, or 0.41%, to 51,983.98.
