India continues to be an engine of growth in the world economy, says IMF
IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack stated that India is really an engine of growth in the world economy. We do project growth in India at 7 percent both for FY 2026-2027 and FY 2027-2028, its said. India right now has quite a lot of growth momentum, and we've seen that through high-frequency indicators all the way through the most recent data that we have. That said, weather events remain an important downside risk for India, like for many Countries that are exposed, particularly to the super El Ni?o, she noted. So worse-than-expected weather, including because of an El Ni?o, could lower crop yields in India, and it could kind of weigh on activity, particularly in rural areas. It could also lead to increased food price inflation, and that can affect the ability, the purchasing power of households. But for now, what we see is quite strong growth momentum in India, and it continues to be an engine of growth for the global economy, she further noted.
