Japan?s stock market rebounds as AI optimism lifts technology shares

27-Oct-2026 | 16:17
Japan?s Nikkei 225 Index rose 1.73% to close at 63,268 on Tuesday, ending a three-day losing streak. The market gained support from an overnight rebound on Wall Street and renewed optimism around artificial intelligence (AI) stocks following Anthropic?s IPO filing.

Investors are closely watching upcoming earnings reports from South Korean chipmakers Samsung and SK Hynix, as well as major US technology companies such as Amazon, Alphabet and Microsoft. Their results are expected to provide further clues about AI demand and the outlook for the technology sector.

Meanwhile, investors are preparing for key central bank decisions this week from the US Federal Reserve, European Central Bank and Bank of Japan. All three are widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged.

Technology and AI-related stocks led the gains in Japan. Advantest surged 9.6%, Ibiden Co. climbed 9.1%, SoftBank Group rose 5.2%, Lasertec gained 5.1%, and Tokyo Electron advanced 2.6%.
