Currency in circulation spikes 13.5% on year

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported that currency in circulation rose 0.90% on the fortnightly basis to stand at Rs 43.46 lakh crore as on October 15, 2026. The central bank stated further that the overall reserve money also gained 0.9% in the same period to Rs 53.24 lakh crore. Currency in circulation jumped 13.5% on a year ago basis compared to 8.8% rise at the same time last year. In the current fiscal year, the currency in circulation moved up 4.3% so far while the reserve money has gained by 4.2%.
