Hot Commodities: Silver breaks below $200,000 on MCX as global bullion rout deepens

23-Oct-2026 | 10:27
Silver prices extended their steep decline on Friday, falling below $54 per ounce to their lowest level since November 2025 as escalating attacks around the Strait of Hormuz pushed Brent crude above $110 and intensified inflation concerns. Fears that persistently high energy prices could keep interest rates elevated for longer continued to weigh on precious metals, with gold, platinum and palladium also extending losses. Although a sharp fall in US Treasury yields and a softer dollar offered some support, the pressure from rising oil prices and monetary policy uncertainty dominated sentiment. On the domestic front, MCX silver futures plunged more than 3%, breaking below ₹2,00,000 to touch an intraday low of ₹1,92,800 per kg.
