15-Oct-2026 | 08:04

GIFT Nifty:

GIFT Nifty October 2026 futures jump 64.50 points, signalling a strong opening for the Nifty 50.

Institutional Flows:

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,857.44 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of Rs 2,670.44 crore in the Indian equity market 14 October 2026, according to provisional data.

FPIs sold shares worth Rs 49,384.04 crore in October through 14 October 2026. This follows net selling of Rs 45,536.89 crore in September 2026, while FPIs were net buyers of Rs 17,366 crore in August 2026.

Global Markets:

Asian equities tumbled on Thursday as a sell-off in technology stocks spread from Wall Street to regional markets. South Korea's Kospi plunged 7.1% to 5,584.83, while Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 3.9% to 65,119.51, with semiconductor stocks leading the declines.

The sell-off followed losses in US technology stocks after hotter-than-expected inflation data heightened concerns over the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook. Investors also remained wary of intensifying competition in the semiconductor industry following reports of advances by Chinese memory-chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), raising concerns over potential pricing pressure in the global memory-chip market.

US equities ended lower on Wednesday, with technology stocks accounting for much of the decline. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.88% to 26,692.87, while the S&P 500 fell 1.11% to 7,718.94. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.09% to 51,621.48.

The declines followed the release of US inflation data showing that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.6% in September from August and 3.7% year on year, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Annual inflation accelerated from 3.4% in August, exceeding market expectations.

Higher fuel costs contributed significantly to the monthly increase, with gasoline prices rising 9.1% in September. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, increased 0.3% month on month and 2.6% year on year. The inflation data heightened concerns that persistent price pressures could prompt the Federal Reserve to maintain a tighter monetary policy stance or consider further interest rate increases.

Domestic Market:

The key equity benchmarks ended lower on Wednesday, as persistent FII selling, elevated crude oil prices and weak global cues weighed on sentiment. Concerns over rising domestic inflation and ongoing geopolitical tensions added to the cautious mood. The Nifty 50 settled below the 22,650 mark. Pharma and healthcare stocks declined sharply, while FMCG, IT and oil & gas shares advanced.

The S&P BSE Sensex declined 251.89 points or 0.34% to 72,781.99. The Nifty 50 index fell 99.25 points or 0.44% to 22,622.70.
