Nifty trades above 22,550; PSU share advance

The domestic equity benchmarks traded with major gains in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 22,550 mark. PSU shares advanced after declining in the past trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 1,001.50 points or 1.39% to 72,596.42. The Nifty 50 index rose 328.45 points or 1.48% to 22,560.25.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 1.31% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.65%.

The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 2,511 shares rose and 1,772 shares fell. A total of 230 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty PSU Bank index rose 1.37% to 8,105.25. The index fell 1.15% in the past trading session.

Indian Bank (up 2.38%), Canara Bank (up 1.87%), State Bank of India (up 1.76%), UCO Bank (up 1.57%), Bank of India (up 1.29%), Bank of Maharashtra (up 1.28%), Bank of Baroda (up 1.24%), Punjab National Bank (up 1.12%), Punjab & Sind Bank (up 1.01%) and Union Bank of India (up 0.99%) jumped.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper fell 0.11% to 7.281 compared with the previous session close of 7.289.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 96.7650 compared with its close of 96.8800 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 4 December 2026 settlement rose 1.09% to Rs 1,51,235.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was down 0.04% to 102.10.

The United States 10-year bond yield rose 0.10% to 5.234.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for December 2026 settlement declined $1.71 or 1.64% to $102.57 a barrel.
