Indices trade higher; auto shares rebound after 2-day decline

The key equity benchmarks traded with major gains in early afternoon trade, supported by easing crude oil prices after US President Donald Trump ruled out near-term strikes on Iran. The positive sentiment helped the Sensex and Nifty recover some of their losses from Thursday?s sharp selloff, which wiped out more than Rs 10 lakh crore in Dalal Street wealth. The Nifty traded above the 22,450 level.

Auto shares advanced after declining in the past two trading sessions.

At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex jumped 752.28 points or 1.05% to 72,345.52. The Nifty 50 index rose 242.55 points or 1.09% to 22,474.

In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap 150 Index gained 1.10% and the Nifty SmallCap 250 Index rose 0.05%.

The market breadth was positive. On the NSE, 1,915 shares rose and 1,505 shares fell. A total of 93 shares were unchanged.

Brent crude futures declined 0.77% to $103.48 a barrel.

Derivatives:

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term declined 3.61% to 14.722. The Nifty 27 October 2026 futures were trading at 22,567 at a premium of 93 points as compared with the spot at 22,474.

The Nifty option chain for the 27 October 2026 expiry showed a maximum call OI of 89.7 lakh contracts at the 23,500 strike price. A maximum put OI of 48.1 lakh contracts was seen at the 22,000 strike price.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Auto index jumped 1.59% to 24,903.20. The index fell 4.03% in the past two trading sessions

Eicher Motors (up 3.89%), Bajaj Auto (up 3.15%), Uno Minda (up 2.28%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (up 2.25%), Mahindra & Mahindra (up 2.1%), Maruti Suzuki India (up 1.75%), Hero MotoCorp (up 1.66%), Ashok Leyland (up 1.1%), Hyundai Motor India (up 0.8%) and TVS Motor Company (up 0.76%) jumped.
