Nifty trades below 22,250; pharma share decline

The domestic equity benchmarks traded with major cuts in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded below the 22,250 mark. Pharma shares extended losses for the second consecutive trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, tanked 1,158.71 points or 1.58% to 71,479.99. The Nifty 50 index lost 374.75 points or 1.66% to 22,217.40.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 2.39% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index fell 2.30%.

The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 930 shares rose and 3,404 shares fell. A total of 227 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Pharma index fell 2.32% to 25,823.90. The index jumped 2.78% in the two consecutive trading sessions.

Mankind Pharma (down 5.51%), Wockhardt (down 4.74%), Ajanta Pharma (down 4.27%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (down 3.65%), Sai Life Sciences (down 3.6%), Piramal Pharma (down 3.18%), Zydus Lifesciences (down 3.17%), Lupin (down 3.08%), Gland Pharma (down 2.97%) and Biocon (down 2.76%) declined.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.26% to 7.262 compared with the previous session close of 7.243.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 96.7850 compared with its close of 96.7550 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 4 December 2026 settlement rose 0.18% to Rs 1,49,370.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.11% to 102.35.

The United States 10-year bond yield rose 1.04% to 5.333.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for the December 2026 settlement jumped $3.94 or 3.93% to $104.14 a barrel.
