06-Oct-2026 | 15:28
The Nikkei 225 rose 1.05% to 70,684 on Tuesday, reaching a three-month high. Japanese shares followed Wall Street?s strong performance, while investors looked past concerns about high bond yields.

Lower oil prices also supported sentiment as expectations of higher Middle Eastern supply eased pressure on Japan?s import-dependent economy. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi continued to back expansionary fiscal policies despite concerns over the weak yen and rising domestic bond yields.

Technology and AI-related stocks led the gains. Advantest rose 3.9%, Taiyo Yuden 6.2%, Fujikura 5.2%, Murata Manufacturing 1% and Lasertec 0.8%.

In corporate news, Toyota Motor is relying on its new Land Cruiser FJ to compete more strongly with Chinese automakers, with sales in Japan and Southeast Asia reportedly exceeding initial expectations.
