Economic Buzz: Eurozone's retail sales up by 0.1% in August

Retail trade improved slightly by 0.1% in August compared to June in both the euro area and the European Union, Eurostat revealed in its report on Tuesday. On an annual basis, retail sales advanced by 0.8% in the Eurozone and by 1.2% in the bloc.
Retail sales volumes for food, drinks, and tobacco rose by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU. Sales of non-food products climbed 0.5% in both the Eurozone and the bloc. Meanwhile, retail sales for automotive fuel in specialized stores slumped by 1.9% in the euro area and 1.3% in the EU.
Countries that recorded the largest month-over-month increases were Romania, where retail sales went up by 2.3%, then Sweden, with a 1.4% gain, and Germany, which added 1.3%. On the other hand, retail sales in Luxembourg and Malta plunged by 9.4% and 1.9%, respectively.
