Nifty trade above 22,550 in early trade; breadth strong

The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in early trade. The Nifty traded above the 22,550 level. Private bank, FMCG and metal shares advanced, while healthcare, pharma and IT stocks declined on the NSE.

At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 119.91 points or 0.16% to 72,511.90. The Nifty 50 index rose 37.50 points or 0.17% to 22,593.90.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.50% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.60%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,085 shares rose and 910 shares fell. A total of 210 shares were unchanged.

FPIs sold shares worth Rs 19,204.53 crore in October through 5 October 2026. This follows net selling of Rs 45,536.89 crore in September 2026, while FPIs were net buyers of Rs 17,366 crore in August 2026.

Stocks in Spotlight:

Axis Bank rose 1.13% after the private sector lender reported a 20.7% year-on-year (YoY) increase in total deposits to Rs 14,52,100 crore as of 30 September 2026. Gross advances rose 22.7% YoY to Rs 13,84,600 crore.

Kotak Mahindra Bank gained 3.58% after the bank?s total deposits increased 23.2% YoY to Rs 6,51,491 crore as of 30 September 2026, compared with Rs 5,28,776 crore a year earlier. Net advances grew 24.7% YoY to Rs 5,77,094 crore.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.17% to 7.225 compared with the previous session close of 7.213.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 96.4300 compared with its close of 96.3550 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 4 December 2026 settlement declined 0.08% to Rs 1,49,200.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was down 0.04% to 102.13.

The United States 10-year bond yield rose 0.15% to 5.321.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for November 2026 settlement jumped 41 cents or 0.41% to $ 100.73 a barrel.

Global Markets:

Asian stocks traded higher on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, tracking an overnight rally on Wall Street led by technology and artificial intelligence-linked stocks. Mainland Chinese markets remained closed for a holiday.

US stocks ended higher on Monday, with the Nasdaq Composite closing at a record high as Nvidia and other technology stocks gained. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.18% to 51,267.90, while the S&P 500 gained 0.66% to 7,773.95. The Nasdaq advanced 1.05% to 27,477.31.

AI-linked stocks led the gains. Nvidia rose 2.12% to a record closing high, while Microsoft gained 1.48%, Meta Platforms advanced around 1.9% and Tesla rose 2.20%. Nvidia's market capitalisation climbed to about $5.76 trillion.

US Treasury yields continued to rise despite the equity rally. The 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.35% during the session and settled around 5.31%, its highest level since April 2002. The 30-year Treasury yield also rose to around 5.7%, reaching its highest level in nearly 24 years.

Crude oil prices steadied on Tuesday after falling nearly 2% on Monday as increased Middle East exports and additional supply commitments eased concerns over shortages. Brent crude had settled around $100.32 a barrel on Monday.

The Federal Reserve?s minutes from its September meeting, due Wednesday, will be closely watched for clues on how policymakers view inflation and the softer labor market.
