Economic Buzz: Eurozone economic sentiment worsens in October

05-Oct-2026 | 14:31
Investor confidence in the euro area saw a significant decline in October, the latest report by Sentix showed on Monday. The confidence index dropped from 5.1 in September to 2.7 in October. Meanwhile, the current situation index remained unchanged at negative 3.3, while the expectations index fell by 5 points to land at 8.8.

In Germany, the economic sentiment index declined by 0.8 points to a negative 3.6, the current situation indicator improved by 2.3 points to stand at a negative 14.5, and the expectations index decreased by 4.3 points to 8.

The eurozone is struggling to emerge from its period of economic weakness. And this time, it is not primarily the weakness of the German economy that is weighing on the eurozone. Rather, the focus is shifting to the French economy and, in particular, the sharp rise in yields on French government bonds, Sentix said in its report.
