Raw Sugar hits one and half year high, breaks above 20 cents per pound mark

05-Oct-2026 | 14:20
Global Sugar futures are soaring amid production worries. Excessive rainfall in Brazil is weighing on the sugarcane harvest while India is witnessing a weak monsoon. In Thailand also tepid rainfall is likely to cut the output. The FAO Sugar Price Index increased by 6.1% from August, driven by expectations of tighter global sugar supplies in the 2026/27 season. Contributing factors included lower expected sugar production in Thailand, concerns over crop prospects in India due to below-normal rainfall and strengthening El Ni?o conditions, heavy rains in Brazil?s Centre-South growing region, and a decline in the area planted to sugar beet in the European Union. The US Raw Sugar futures broke above 20 cents per pound mark to hit highest level in one and half years. Prices had spiked more than 5% on Friday.
