Economic Buzz: US trade deficit up to $132.6B in August

The United States trade deficit in goods and services saw a monthly increase of $13.7 billion or 11.5% to $132.6 billion in August, the country's Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) said in their report published on Wednesday. July's deficit was revised up to $118.9 billion.

Exports from the US increased by 1.9% or $3.7 billion month-on-month to $203.4 billion. Meanwhile, imports rose by 5.5% or $17.4 billion to $336.1 billion.

Wholesale inventories stood at $965.7 billion, up by 0.7% compared to the previous month. In the same period, the value of retail inventories was reported at $881.6 billion, up 0.3% month-on-month.
