Economic Buzz: German unemployment rate at 6.4% in September

The German unemployment rate stood at 6.4% in September, down 0.1 percentage point from August, according to a report by the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit) published on Wednesday. The unemployment rate was up by 0.1 points compared to September 2025.

The number of unemployed people was 2,994,420, 2% less than in August but 1% more than a year ago. The underemployment rate, including unemployment and those unable to work due to labor market policies or short-term work incapacity, was 7.6%, down 0.1 points month-on-month and up 0.1 points annually. The number of underemployed people was 3,614,990, down 2% from August but up 1% on a yearly basis.
