Sensex, Nifty trade in negative terrain; realty shares surge

The benchmarks pared all gains and traded with minor losses in mid-afternoon trade, weighed down by a marginal rise in crude oil prices and continued selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). The Nifty traded below the 22,700 level.

Realty shares rebounded after declining in the past two trading sessions.

At 14:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex shed 48.85 points or 0.07% to 72,480.22. The Nifty 50 index declined 0.22 points or 0.22% to 22,666.40.

In the broader market, the Nifty 150 MidCap Index jumped 0.59% and the Nifty 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.96%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1,953 shares rose and 1,546 shares fell. A total of 124 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Realty index jumped 1.82% to 849. The index declined 2.34% in the past two trading sessions.

Prestige Estates Projects (up 4.69%), Brigade Enterprises (up 2.63%), DLF (up 2.17%), Phoenix Mills (up 1.6%), Oberoi Realty (up 1.42%), Lodha Developers (up 1.12%), Aditya Birla Real Estate (up 0.94%), Godrej Properties (up 0.67%), Anant Raj (up 0.51%) declined.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper declined 0.21% to 7.144 compared with the previous session close of 7.111.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 95.8100 compared with its close of 95.9475 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 5 October 2026 settlement advanced 1.14% to Rs 1,46,900.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.02% to 101.39.

The United States 10-year bond yield fell 0.38% to 5.240.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for November 2026 settlement added 27 cents or 0.26% to $102.86 a barrel.
