Sensex jumps 413 pts; private bank shares advance

The key equity benchmarks traded with moderate gains in early afternoon trade, supported by eased crude oil prices from elevated levels and a moderation in US Treasury bond yields. The Nifty traded above the 22,750 mark. Private bank shares advanced after declining in the past trading session.

At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex advanced 413 points or 0.57% to 72,942.07. The Nifty 50 index added 56.55 points or 0.25% to 22,774.05.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index jumped 0.22% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.35%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,336 shares rose and 1,825 shares fell. A total of 230 shares were unchanged.

The United States 10-year bond yield fell 0.46% to 5.236. Brent crude for the November 2026 settlement added 61 cents or 0.59% to $103.20 a barrel.

Derivatives:

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, fell 3.39% to 12.96. The Nifty 27 October 2026 futures were trading at 22,895 at a premium of 120.95 points as compared with the spot at 22,774.05.

The Nifty option chain for the 27 October 2026 expiry showed a maximum call OI of 90 crore contracts at the 23,500 strike price. A maximum put OI of 62.8 crore contracts was seen at the 23,500 strike price.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Private Bank index rose 1.59% to 26,864.45. The index fell 2.95% in the two consecutive trading sessions.

ICICI Bank (up 3.02%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 2.44%), IDFC First Bank (up 2.18%), Yes Bank (up 2.08%), IndusInd Bank (up 1.86%), RBL Bank (up 1.67%), and Axis Bank (up 1.48%) jumped.

Stocks in Spotlight:

Inox Green Energy Services shed 0.03%. The company has announced the successful completion of qualified institutions placement (QIP) for the equity shares of the company, raising an aggregate of approximately Rs 299.99 crore.

HEG Advanced Materials added 1.01% after the company said that Replus Engitech has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indus Towers for exploring BESS solutions for telecom infrastructure in India.
