Economic Buzz: Australia house approvals rebound 3.7% in August, strongest rise in a year

Australia?s private-sector house approvals rose 3.7% month-on-month to 10,885 units in August, rebounding from a revised 1.9% decline in July and marking the strongest monthly increase since July 2025. South Australia led the gains with a 27.7% jump, followed by Western Australia at 8.6%, Queensland at 6.5% and Victoria at 0.5%, while New South Wales was the only major state to record a decline, falling 4.5%. Approvals for private-sector dwellings excluding houses fell 21.4% to 5,674 units, while house approvals climbed 18.4% from a year earlier, accelerating from an 8.2% annual increase in July.
