Economic Buzz: US job openings at 7.1M in August

The number of job openings in the United States stood at 7.1 million in August, little changed from July's upwardly revised 7.3 million, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Tuesday. The job openings rate was 4.3%.

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed that hires changed little at 5.2 million, with the hires rate at 3.3%.

At the same time, total separations were unchanged at 5.1 million, or 3.2%, while quits were also steady at 3.1 million, with a quits rate of 1.9%.
