Agri Buzz: Soil moisture remains critical for ensuring overall crop growth in kharif season

Reserve Bank of India stated in its latest monthly bulletin that after a pick-up in July, the south-west monsoon rainfall got subdued in August. Consequently, the reservoir storage stood below the decadal average, albeit at a higher level than the preceding El Ni?o year of 2023. Although the sowing in the kharif season is nearing its end, soil moisture remains critical for ensuring the overall crop growth. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a below normal forecast of rainfall at the all-India level for September. A good harvest in the previous year has, however, resulted in robust procurement of rice and wheat, leading to comfortable public foodgrain stocks.
