Economic Buzz: US consumer confidence down in September

The Consumer Sentiment Index in the United States tumbled 7% in September compared to the month prior, landing at 48.1, a final report posted by the University of Michigan showed on Friday. The figure sank 12.7% on an annual level.

The Current Economic Conditions Index was down 1.9% in the reported period compared to August and lost 15.7% compared to September 2025, amounting to 50.9 points. The Index of Consumer Expectations slid 10.1% on a monthly basis and 10.4% on a yearly basis, coming in at 46.3. Indexes related to consumer sentiment and expectations came in somewhat higher in the final reading compared to the preliminary one.
