Economic Buzz: US new home sales up 6.4% in August

Sales of new single‐family houses in the United States came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 684,000 in August, the country's Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development revealed in a report on Thursday.

Month-over-month, the figure increased 6.4%. On an annual basis, the reading fell 2%.

In the reported month, the median sales price of new houses sold amounted to $393,700, while the average sales price came in at $478,700. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of August stood at 483,000, translating to an 8.5-month supply at the current rate of sales.
