Economic Buzz: US initial jobless claims down by 1,000 to 197,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States declined by 1,000 compared to the previous week's revised level to land at 197,000 in the seven days ending September 19, the Department of Labor (DoL) said in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average decreased by 1,750 from the previous week's revised average to 202,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate in the week ending September 12 stood at 1.1%, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment jumped by 2,000 week-on-week to 1,719,000. The 4-week moving average decreased by 13,000 to 1,744,000.
