Economic Buzz: German producer prices up 4.6% in August
The annual rise in producer prices in the reported month was mainly attributed to an increase in energy prices, which climbed by 8.3% year-on-year, followed by prices for intermediate goods, which advanced by 6.1% compared to August 2026. Capital goods and durable goods grew by 2.4% and 2.1%, respectively, on an annual basis, while consumer goods declined by 2.0%.
Within the energy sector, energy prices climbed 3.2% month-to-month, as the main driver of higher prices was the increase in petroleum product prices, which jumped by 40.5% compared to the same period in the previous year, and 4.9% higher compared with the prior month, due to the conflict in Iran and the Middle East. In addition, the prices of natural gas increased by 7.5% and electricity rose 1.7%, year-over-year.
