Economic Buzz: US initial jobless claims down by 10,000 to 196,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States declined by 10,000 compared to the previous week's unrevised level to land at 196,000 in the seven days ending September 12, the Department of Labor (DoL) said in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average decreased by 2,750 from the previous week's unrevised average to 203,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate in the week ending September 5 stood at 1.1%, down 0.1 percentage point compared to the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment dropped by 39,000 week-on-week to 1,730,000. The 4-week moving average decreased by 16,500 to 1,761,250.
