Gold retreats as higher rate outlook dents bullion appeal

17-Sep-2026 | 14:34
Gold edged lower below $4300 an ounce in intraday trades as the Federal Reserve?s 25-basis-point rate hike and prospects of another increase before year-end strengthened the case for higher borrowing costs. The Fed?s median projection for the end-2026 policy rate rose to 4.1% from 3.8%, while a firmer dollar and elevated Treasury yields increased the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. Persistent oil-supply concerns have also reinforced inflationary pressures and the prospect of tighter monetary policy. MCX October bullion futures declined 0.5% to ₹151,650 per 10 grams.
