China's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.8% year over year in August, accelerating from 0.5% in July, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Wednesday.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4%, following a 0.1% decline in July. Meanwhile, the producer price index (PPI) rose 3.8% from a year earlier, compared with a 3.5% increase the previous month.
The monthly CPI and PPI readings came in stronger than expected, while the annual CPI figure was in line with market forecasts.
