Economic Buzz: China's August car exports soar as domestic sales fall

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) revealed in a report on Tuesday that passenger vehicle exports in August amounted to 894,000 units, jumping by 77.5% on an annual basis but easing from an increase of 88.2% in July.
By contrast, domestic passenger-vehicle sales fell 23.7% to 1.55 million units, worsening from a 21.1% decline in July. Passenger New Energy Vehicle (NEV) exports reached 518,000 units, up 154.7% year-on-year and accounting for 58.4% of total passenger-vehicle exports, though down 5% from July.
BYD led exporters with 184,446 vehicles, followed by Geely with 69,910 and Chery with 68,431. Tesla China shipped 36,119 units, while Changan Automobile sold 28,323 cars, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle sold 24,991, and Leapmotor added 18,255.
