Economic Buzz: US trade deficit up to $88.6B in July

The United States trade deficit in goods and services saw a monthly increase of $17.4 billion or 24.4% to $88.6 billion in July, the country's Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) said in their report published on Thursday. June's deficit was revised to $71.2 billion.
Exports from the US declined by 2.1% or $6.6 billion month-on-month to $310.7 billion. Meanwhile, imports rose by 2.8% or $10.8 billion to $399.3 billion.
In the first seven months of 2026, the overall trade deficit decreased by 29.6% or $188.4 billion compared with the same period in 2025. Exports increased by 12.0% or $237.2 billion, while imports grew by 1.9% or $48.8 billion.
