Economic Buzz: Australia house approvals reverse June gain, drop 4.2% MoM

Australia?s private-sector house approvals fell 4.2% month-on-month to 10,199 units in July 2026, reversing a 0.4% rise in June and marking a broad-based decline across major states. Approvals fell most sharply in South Australia, Queensland and Victoria, while approvals for private-sector dwellings excluding houses slipped 0.4%. On an annual basis, house approvals rose 6.0%, but the pace of growth slowed significantly from June, pointing to some moderation in housing construction activity.
