Economic Buzz: Japan consumer confidence up to 35.5 in August

Japan's seasonally adjusted Consumer Confidence Index stood at 35.5 in August, up 0.6 points from the previous month, the country's Cabinet Office said in a report published on Tuesday.

The overall livelihood index rose by 1 point from the previous month to 34.1. The income growth index was at 40.4, 0.5 points down from July. The employment index fell by 0.2 points to 39.9. The index calculating willingness to buy durable goods grew by 1.9 points to 27.5.

The percentage of people surveyed who expect prices to increase over the next year decreased by 3.8% compared to July to 89%. The percentage of those who expect them to stay the same went up by 1.7% to 4.6%. Meanwhile, the percentage of those who expect them to decline increased by 2.1% to 4.6%.
