Japan?s retail sales rose 4% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating sharply from June?s revised 0.6% gain. Growth was led by a strong 16.2% increase in motor vehicle sales, while machinery, general merchandise, food and beverages also recorded rebounds. On a monthly basis, retail sales climbed 2.4%, marking a strong recovery from June?s steep decline and signalling firmer consumer activity.
