Fertiliser stocks rallied sharply in early trade on Tuesday, with strong buying interest following Russia's assurance of increased fertiliser supplies to India.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is increasing fertiliser supplies to India's agricultural sector and is prepared to continue doing so. He made the remarks during a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Moscow on Monday.

The development boosted sentiment across fertiliser stocks, with Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (13.41%), Madras Fertilizers (7.95%), Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (7.33%), Paradeep Phosphates (7.23%), Bharat Agri Fert & Realty (7.07%), National Fertilizers (6.02%), Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (3.90%), Zuari Agro Chemicals (3.48%), Rama Phosphates (2.89%), Zuari Industries (2.42%), Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals (1.58%), Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation (1.86%), Madhya Bharat Agro Products (0.93%) and Krishana Phoschem (0.75%) advancing in early trade.

Russia is India's largest fertiliser supplier. India's fertiliser imports from Russia rose 41% to 6.5 million tonnes in 2025, while total fertiliser imports increased 45% to 27.4 million tonnes, according to data cited by Interfax.

The latest assurance comes as India and Russia seek to deepen economic cooperation. Fertilisers have been identified as an important area of bilateral trade. Jaishankar also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message to Putin. He said Modi looked forward to meeting the Russian President at the upcoming SCO summit.

Modi and Putin are expected to meet on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for 31 August to 1 September. Putin is also expected to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS summit on 12-13 September.
