Nifty trades below 24,200 level; media share decline

The domestic equity benchmarks traded with modest cuts in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded below the 24,200 level. Media shares extended losses for the second consecutive trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, declined 284.15 points or 0.37% to 77,256.68. The Nifty 50 index lost 86.50 points or 0.36% to 24,165.50.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index fell 0.06% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index shed 0.04%.

The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,997 shares rose and 2,331 shares fell. A total of 277 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Media index fell 0.77% to 1,600.30. The index jumped 1.33% in the two consecutive trading sessions.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises (down 3%), Tips Music (down 1.2%), Nazara Technologies (down 1.19%), Sun TV Network (down 0.66%) and Hathway Cable & Datacom (down 0.28%) fell.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.34% to 6.869 compared with the previous session close of 6.846.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 95.7400 compared with its close of 95.7150 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for the 5 October 2026 settlement rose 0.58% to Rs 1,63,374.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.18% to 98.97.

The United States 10-year bond yield shed 0.74% to 4.703.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for the October 2026 settlement fell $1.27 or 1.35% to $93.12 a barrel.

Stocks in Spotlight:

Caplin Point Laboratories fell 2.38% after the company said that the USFDA conducted an unannounced inspection of its subsidiary Caplin Steriles? injectable and ophthalmic manufacturing facility at Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu.

Ceigall India added 3.74% after the company, jointly with Sushee Infra & Mining (SIML), announced the receipt of letter of acceptance (LoA) from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) for road construction project.
