Agri Buzz: Gujarat kharif acreage down 3% on year, Groundnut area slides sharply

According to the latest data from the Gujarat Agriculture Directorate, the latest sowing data showed that the total acreage under summer crops stood at 78.55 lakh hectares as on 24 August 2026, down around 3% compared to the same period last year. Area under total cereals stood at 13.34 lakh hectares, easing 1.70% on year. Pulses area slipped by 3.14% at 4 lakh hectares. Oilseeds area fell by 4.8% on year to 28.56 lakh hectares. Area under Groundnut - the major commodity in the oilseeds group dropped around 5.85% to 20.6 lakh hectares. In other major commodities, acreage under Cotton rose 3.42% on year to 21.41 lakh hectares.
