Nifty drops below 24,200 level; consumer durables shares decline
Consumer durables shares declined after advancing in the previous two trading sessions.
At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 187.88 points or 0.24% to 77,352.95. The Nifty 50 index fell 57.40 points or 0.24% to 24,194.60.
In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index was unchanged and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.11%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,071 shares rose and 2,141 shares fell. A total of 271 shares were unchanged.
Derivatives:
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, rose 2.30% to 11.45. The Nifty 25 August 2026 futures were trading at 24,218, at a premium of 23.4 points as compared with the spot at 24,194.60.
The Nifty option chain for the 25 August 2026 expiry showed a maximum call OI of 4.11 crore contracts at the 24,300 strike price. A maximum put OI of 2.41 crore contracts was seen at the 24,200 strike price.
Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Consumer Durables index declined 0.74% to 40,280.25. The index rose 0.79% in the two consecutive trading sessions.
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (down 2.96%), Dixon Technologies (India) (down 2.22%), Bata India (down 1.88%), Havells India (down 0.85%), Kajaria Ceramics (down 0.57%), Titan Company (down 0.56%), Blue Star (down 0.38%), Voltas (down 0.36%), Whirlpool of India (down 0.07%) declined.
Stocks in Spotlight:
Urban Company jumped 7.12% after the company said Kent RO Systems has agreed before the Delhi High Court to withdraw advertisements and social media content that Urban Company alleged were disparaging its Native water purifiers.
Active Clothing Co surged 6.93% after the company announced an arrangement for the pan-India distribution of four global brands - Levi's, Nike, Jordan Kids and Ben Sherman Men's.
