Vishal Mega Mart surges after board reappoints Gunender Kapur as MD & CEO

Vishal Mega Mart rose 6.76% to Rs 110.60 after the company?s board approved the reappointment of Gunender Kapur as managing director and chief executive officer for a five-year term, effective from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2031.
Kapur has also been redesignated as founder, managing director and chief executive officer of the company.

Kapur was appointed as the managing director and chief executive officer for a three-year term with effect from 27 June 2024, with his existing tenure scheduled to expire on 26 June 2027.

Gunender Kapur holds a bachelor?s degree in engineering with honours from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science and a master?s degree in business administration from the University of Delhi. He has over 42 years of experience in management and investment in the consumer and retail sectors. Previously, he was associated with Hindustan Lever, Unilever Nigeria PLC, Reliance Industries and TPG Capital.

Vishal Mega Mart is a retail company offering products across three major categories - apparel, general merchandise and FMCG. As of 30 June 2026, the company operated 819 stores across 559 cities in 28 states and two Union territories, along with its mobile application and website.

The company reported a 25.57% jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 258.77 crore in Q1 FY27 compared with Rs 206.07 crore in Q1 FY26. Net sales climbed 18.68% YoY to Rs 3,727.01 crore in during the quarter.
