Agri Buzz: kharif sowing down around 1.5% on year

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, kharif crops had been sown across 1,056.70 lakh hectares as of August 21, 2026, compared with 1,072.77 lakh hectares during the corresponding period last year. This reflects that total area under kharif crops was therefore lower by 16.07 lakh hectares, or 1.50%, from a year earlier. The deficit has eased in recent weeks on gradual improvment in sowing.
