COMEX Copper soars around 2%

Copper soared today despite mixed equities as weak US dollar boosted the metal along with expectations of curtailed global supplies. The commodity currently trades up 2.10% at $6.61 per pound. International Copper Study Group (ICSG) noted today that world copper mine production declined by 1.1% in the first half of 2026, with a decline in concentrate production of -2.6% more than offsetting an increase in solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX-EW) of 4.3%. MCX Copper is up 1.18% at Rs 1387.90 per kg after hitting a high of Rs 1389.50 per kg. Meanwhile, in Asia, China's Shanghai Composite index was flat after recent correction. Hong Kong?s Hang Seng index gained 1.21% while Japanese Nikkei index eased 0.30%. European stocks saw modest gains ahead of weekend. The US stocks slipped on Thursday amid a rebound in bond yields. Dow Jones dropped 1.32%.
