Barometers turn rangebound; financial services shares in demand
The Nifty traded above the 24,200 mark. Financial services shares extended gains for the second consecutive trading session.
At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 35.72 points or 0.05% to 77,573.44. The Nifty 50 index added 9.75 points or 0.05% to 24,241.10.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.15% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.43%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,191 shares rose and 2,051 shares fell. A total of 250 shares were unchanged.
Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Financial Services index rose 0.18% to 26,250.85. The index rallied 0.91% in two consecutive trading sessions.
Muthoot Finance (up 2.15%), HDFC Life Insurance Company (up 1.56%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.08%), HDFC Bank (up 0.75%), Bajaj Finserv (up 0.51%), Shriram Finance (up 0.51%), Max Financial Services (up 0.46%) and ICICI Bank (up 0.45%) advanced.
On the other hand, LIC Housing Finance (down 3.21%), Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (down 1.72%) and BSE (down 1.64%) edged lower.
Numbers to Track:
The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper shed 0.06% to 6.869 compared with the previous session close of 6.873.
In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 95.7350 compared with its close of 95.7475 during the previous trading session.
MCX Gold futures for the 5 October 2026 settlement rose 0.19% to Rs 1,61,301.
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was down 0.25% to 98.56.
The United States 10-year bond yield fell 0.21% to 4.688.
In the commodities market, Brent crude for the October 2026 settlement lost 59 cents or 0.63% to $93.19 a barrel.
