Economic Buzz: US initial jobless claims down 6,000 to 206,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States decreased from 212,000 to 206,000 in the week ending August 15, compared to the previous week's revised figure, the Department of Labor said in its report published on Thursday. The four-week moving average stood at 204,000, representing an increase of 4,250 from the week prior.

The insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending August 8, unchanged from the week before. Seasonally adjusted insured unemployment in the week ending August 8 reached 1,799,000, up 18,000 from the previous seven-day period. The four-week moving average was 1,789,000, rising 2,500 from the previous week's revised average.
