Economic Buzz: Eurozone current account up ?9 billion to ?35 billion in June

The euro area current account advanced by ?9 billion in June compared to May, landing at a surplus of ?35 billion, the European Central Bank said on Wednesday in the monthly balance of payments report. The surplus was driven by goods at ?18 billion and services at ?17 billion. Primary income saw a surplus of ?17 billion while secondary income deficit landed at ?16 billion.
In the last year, the current account surplus amounted to ?276 billion or 1.7% of the Eurozone's gross domestic product (GDP), which was 2% less than the previous year. Goods surplus shrank to ?282 billion, while the deficit for secondary income widened to ?202 billion. Services surplus increased to ?159 billion, while primary income saw a ?38 billion surplus compared to a deficit in the same month of 2025.
In the 12 months to June, the Eurozone residents' net acquisitions of non-euro area portfolio investment securities came to ?820 billion, and non-residents? net acquisitions of euro area portfolio investment securities totaled ?1,123 billion.
