Economic Buzz: Eurozone goods trade surplus at ?8.6B in June

The goods trade surplus in the euro area widened to ?8.6 billion in June, up from ?4.8 billion a year ago and a ?9 billion deficit in May, according to a Eurostat report released on Friday. Exports stood at ?272.5 billion, up 14.4% year-on-year, while imports grew by 13.1% to ?264 billion. In the European Union, the trade surplus was estimated at ?3.9 billion, down from ?5.2 billion in June 2025.

The EU had a ?11.2 billion goods trade surplus with the United States, a ?35.1 billion deficit with China and a ?17.1 billion surplus with the United Kingdom. The union exported 38.4% more energy in June 2026 than in the same month last year, but it also imported 30.6% more energy. Raw materials also saw an increase in exports and imports of 16.5% and 20.2%, respectively, while exports of machinery and vehicles increased by 13.5% and imports by 16.9%.
