Initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 9,000 in the week ending August 8 compared to the previous week, landing at 209,000, according to a report by the Department of Labor published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was 199,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised average.

The insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending August 1, unchanged from the previous week, with the total insured unemployment standing at 1,777,000, a decrease of 22,000 from the previous week. The 4-week moving average was 1,785,500, down by 5,250 from the previous week's revised average.
