Economic Buzz: UK trade deficit at ?8B in three months to June

The United Kingdom's trade deficit in goods and services widened by ?0.3 billion to reach ?8 billion in the three months to June, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Thursday.

Exports increased by ?5.5 billion in the reported period, while imports rose by ?6.7 billion. The goods trade deficit expanded by ?1.2 billion to ?60.7 billion, while the services trade surplus widened by an estimated ?0.9 billion to ?52.7 billion.

The ONS also noted that imports from non-EU countries climbed by ?2.6 billion in the three months to June, as exports rose by ?3 billion. In addition, both imports from the EU and exports of goods to the bloc in this quarter grew by ?4.1 billion and ?2.5 billion, respectively.
