Agri Buzz: Kharif area down modestly, oilseeds acreage up around 3%

India's Kharif acreage stood at 967.92 lakh hectares as of 7 August 2026, down 17.96 lakh hectares (lh), or 1.82%, from 985.89 lh a year ago, latest data showed. Area under Rice stood at 344.78 lakh hectares, down around 4.40% on year. Acreage under pulses dropped 1.84% at 105.73 lh. Total cereals acreage has slipped 2.72% to 173.21 lh. Oilseeds acreage rose around 3% to 175.01 lh. Sugarcane acreage is down 0.53% to 58.62 lh. Cotton area is down marginally by 0.39% at 106.42 lh.
