Economic Buzz: Eurozone retail sales down by 0.3% in June

Retail trade in the Eurozone experienced a monthly fall of 0.3% in June, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat revealed in its report published on Thursday. In the European Union, it went down by 0.1%. On an annual basis, the figure increased by 0.7% in the euro area and 1.2% in the EU.

Month-on-month, the Eurozone saw growth of 1.5% in retail sales of automotive fuel in specialized stores. The sales of food, drinks, and tobacco declined by 0.5% and non-food products fell by 0.4%. In the EU, retail trade in automotive fuel in specialized stores went up by 1.7%. The figure for automotive food, drinks, and tobacco dropped by 0.4% and for non-food products 0.3%.

The highest monthly decreases were seen in Finland at 1.5%, Romania at 1.2%, and Germany at 1.1%. The sharpest increases were registered in Luxembourg at 2.5%, Portugal at 1.7%, and Croatia and Sweden at 1.5%.
